What You’ll Do
Sellwood is seeking an Associate with investment manager research experience to join the investment team in our Portland, Oregon office. In this role, you will be an integral member of our advisory team and perform the following tasks:
- Report to Sellwood’s Investment Committee Chair and collaborate with Sellwood’s Investment Committee to meet the investment manager research needs of our clients.
- Research new investment managers, asset classes, and investment topics, including leading in-person meetings and writing due diligence reports.
- Maintain and monitor Sellwood’s approved investment list, including ongoing due diligence and evaluation of investment performance relative to expectations.
- Document and communicate key findings from due diligence and meetings to the Sellwood advisory team.
- Coordinate with Sellwood’s advisory teams to obtain investment manager information necessary for them to perform their duties.
- Explain sometimes complicated investment strategies, in terms that our advisory team and clients can understand.
- Occasionally travel to investment manager, client and other business-related meetings, including trips requiring plane travel and overnight stays.
What You’ll Bring
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of investment manager research-related investment experience, preferably in investment consulting, investment advisory or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates who possess or demonstrate a progression towards achieving professional and/or graduate level education are preferred (i.e. a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation and/or Business Master’s degree).
We are looking for candidates that have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of investment manager research combined with strong project management, quantitative, analytical, written, and verbal skills. Fluency with Microsoft Excel and Morningstar Direct is strongly preferred, as is knowledge of statistical concepts.
A successful candidate must be proactive, ethical, a problem solver, and be able to thrive in a fluid work environment where priorities sometimes change.
The position requires management of multiple simultaneous research projects involving collaboration with several parties inside and outside the firm. Strong personal organizational skills are required to succeed in the role.
What We Offer
- Salary – to be consistent with experience and potential, ranging from $70,000 to $130,000.
