John McLaughlin serves as a Consultant with Sellwood Consulting LLC. He serves as a member of Sellwood’s Investment Committee.

In his role, John leads Sellwood’s investment manager research effort in addition to contributing to firmwide research on behalf of clients.

John has 20 years of investment experience. Prior to Sellwood, John worked as a portfolio manager at Morningstar Investment Management LLC. While at Morningstar, John managed several billion dollars in multi-asset mutual funds as a prospectus-listed fund manager. Additionally, he was a key team member contributing to the strategy and launch of Morningstar’s asset management business. John also has prior experience as a Vice President within Callan LLC’s discretionary investment practice and as a Consultant at R.V. Kuhns & Associates (now RVK). John started his career in analytical roles at Russell Investments and Moss Adams LLP.

John earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with concentrations in Analytic Finance, Accounting, Econometrics and Statistics. He also earned his BABA in Finance from Seattle University where he graduated with high honors. Additionally, John is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Portland.

Outside of the office, John enjoys reading, gardening, and volunteering with The Oregon Food Bank, which is dedicated to eliminating hunger and its root causes.
